English (Minor)

The minor in English doesn’t solely stress mastery of expository and creative writing. It also hones students’ critical thinking and analytical skills, deploying interdisciplinary studies in history, education, criminal justice and the sciences to generate robust and engaging opportunities for analysis.

Upon completion of the English minor, students will be able to:

  1. Identify, define and apply literary critical approaches to analyse texts. 
  2. Define, analyse and interpret texts and their cultural and historical contexts.
  3. Formulate and construct interpretive and creative applications of texts in workshops, literary performances, and other collaborative events in local communities.
Pre-Minor Requirements
  • EN 102 Expository Writing
  • One 200-level English Course

Note: All requirements must be passed with a grade of ‘C’ or better.

Minor Requirements
  • EN 314 Backgrounds in American Literature 
  • EN 315 Backgrounds in British Literature
  • One 300-level English Course
  • One 400-level English Course
