Facilitating a student’s goal to graduate in four years (or less) with a bachelor’s degree through comprehensive degree planning and advising services.
Student and Advisor Responsibilities
Expectations/Responsibilities of the Student
- During your first semester at Chaminade University, schedule an advising appointment with an advisor in the Office of Student Success
- Please arrive to your scheduled meeting on time, if you are unable to attend, then please call or email your advisor in advance
- Prepare a list of questions or concerns prior to your meeting
- Be an active listener during your meeting to understand your options during your academic journey
- Clarify your personal and academic goals with your advisor; be honest about your goals and interests
- Become knowledgeable about University and Department policies, procedures, and requirements as well as important dates and deadlines
- Keep a personal record of your process, degree plans, and other documents
- Maintain full-time status (12 credits) and do not exceed, unless specified, the maximum number of credits per semester (19 credits)
Expectations/Responsibilities of the Advisor
- Understand and effectively communicate the curriculum, general education requirements, graduation requirements, and University policies and procedures
- Provide information and strategies for utilizing resources and services
- Encourage students to explore their educational options
- Maintain confidentiality and follow FERPA guidelines
- Assist students with declaring majors and minors
- Assist students with understanding their four-year plan for their respective majors
- Assist students in selecting courses for general education and major/minor
- Refer students to other appropriate campus resources
- Maintain contact with students to assist with future advising sessions in regards to class registration, career opportunities, and more
