“To educate is to actively help the student discover and develop his/her native talents and to guide him/her toward bringing them to their fullest realization.”
Fr. Domingo Lazaro, S.M.
Program Overview
At Chaminade, we believe those words—written by celebrated Marianist educator Father Domingo Lazaro more than a century ago—stand true today. In fact, Chaminade’s Experiential Honors Program, debuting in 2020, was built on the theory that hands-on learning, with real-world experiences that challenge and inspire, are the lessons we truly grow from.
The Chaminade University Experiential Honors Program is a four year program that encourages students to make positive change in the world through experiential learning as an ambassador of the United Nations CIFAL Center Honolulu, housed at Chaminade University of Honolulu. Alignment with the UN CIFAL center provides students in our Honors Program with an enhanced learning environment, encouraging them to put learning into action through myriad hands on opportunities. Throughout the four years in the Honors Program, students will engage in educational and leadership activities, cultural events, and creative opportunities that enhance their academic portfolio and as well as personal growth while making positive contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (U.N. SDGs).
The Experiential Honors Program is about helping students make positive change in the world through a four year curriculum that broadens and deepens understanding of the world’s most pressing problems. Over the course of the program, students:

- Have mentorships and collaborations with leading experts, community stakeholders and senior executives
- Offered exclusive United Nations CIFAL events
- Receive priority registration to ensure course schedules allow for optimal coursework planning
- Have a dedicated academic advisor and career development mentor
- Have opportunities for study abroad trips overseas
