Biography

Darren came to Chaminade University in 2007 as the school counseling internship director.  Previously, Darren spent 11 years working with high-risk adolescents and their families in various community mental health settings.  Darren is a licensed mental health counselor in the State of Hawai`i.  In the summer of 2013, Darren received his doctorate and was promoted to Assistant Professor. Darren is now the Associate Dean of the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences and oversees programs in Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, and Educational Psychology.

Darren has developed a number of community-based mental health programs that include opening a therapeutic group home, developing an outreach unit for an adolescent diversion program, and partnering with Family Court in developing an intervention program that focused on the runaways.  Darren has conducted research on alternate pedagogy to increase academic achievement, bullying prevention, suicide prevention, stress & anxiety, emotional intelligence, social-emotional learning, performance coaching, high impact practices, and self-regulation.
