Admission Requirements

At Chaminade University, we take a holistic approach and look at all our applicants as a whole person. We want to better understand who you are, and the strengths you might bring to the Chaminade community.

Chaminade University’s Test Blind & Holistic Approach

We announced in September 2020 our plans to move to a holistic and test blind application review process. Test blind means that we will not review standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) for general admission. Students are our top priority at Chaminade University of Honolulu. That’s why we adopted a holistic admission process, with a test blind approach, for our prospective students. We understand the barriers standardized tests place on our students. We also know that COVID-19 has brought hardships on many in our community, and across the globe, including our students, prospective students and their families. Our focus is, and always has been, on serving our own community and ensuring everyone has equal access to an affordable high-quality education right here in Hawaii.

Chaminade will use other considerations in our decision process—students will be evaluated beyond the academic metrics. High school transcript, curriculum and grade trends are still the strongest predictors of success and are central to our decision process. However, the story behind the grades is also what we hope to learn.

We encourage students to share their story in their application. We want to get a sense of who you are outside the classroom. What are your responsibilities, activities, passions and hobbies? Your activities list (resume) and writing (essays and short responses) can help showcase the student behind the grades. Recommendation letters may also help share your story. At Chaminade, we are approachable too, and would even welcome the chance to speak or meet with you, even if virtually.
