International Admissions Requirements
International (non-U.S. citizen) applicants are welcome to apply to Chaminade University.
International students must have a visa status that allows in-person, academic study at Chaminade University. This can include temporary U.S. visas such as F-1 student visas, J-1 exchange visitors, H-1 temporary worker, dependent visas or any other non-immigrant classifications.

INTERNATIONAL ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
- Meet the admissions criteria and deadlines for undergraduate or graduate applicants.
- NACES Evaluation
- All International Students are required to submit an official, third-party certified evaluations (course-by-course, GPA, credits, grades), International Transcript Evaluation. This must be completed by a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) member organization in order to be considered official.
- The official evaluation must come directly from the organization to Chaminade University by electronic submission to [email protected].
- Unofficial transcript evaluations will not be accepted.
- Students who attended English speaking institutions in a foreign country are still required to submit an International Transcript Evaluation.
- Chaminade does not accept transcript translations in place of transcript evaluations.
- Proof of English Proficiency
International applicants whose native language is not English must submit proof of English proficiency.
English Test Scores Accepted by Chaminade University:- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): minimum score on the TOEFL –IBT is 79
- IELTS: minimum score of 6.5
- PTE: minimum score of 53
- Duolingo: minimum score of 95 (How to send Duolingo test results)
Score reports must be submitted directly from the testing service to Chaminade University by emailing [email protected]. Unofficial score reports will not be accepted.
English Proficiency Test Exemptions
Applicants may be considered for an exemption from English proficiency testing if they meet one of the following criteria:
- A conferred associate’s, bachelor’s, or advanced degree from an accredited institution where the language of instruction was entirely English. The degree must have been awarded within the past five (5) years.
- Completion of at least thirty (30) transferable semester credits with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. All coursework must have been completed in a classroom setting at an accredited college or university where English is the primary language of instruction.
- Submission of official transcripts demonstrating a minimum of six (6) consecutive years of full-time education in which English was the primary language of instruction. This may include middle school, secondary/high school, and/or post-secondary study. Records must include all subjects taken, grades or examination results for each subject, and any diplomas or certificates awarded. Complete documentation for all six (6) years is required and must be submitted to the Office of Admissions for verification.
Final determination of eligibility for these exemptions is at the discretion of the Admissions Office and the relevant academic program.

Scholarships
International students are not eligible to receive merit-based scholarships.
Certificate of Finances
Once you’ve been offered admission to your program, your admissions portal checklist will require you to upload a Certificate of Finances showing proof of ability to cover your cost of attendance (tuition, fees, books and supplies, room and board, etc.) for the upcoming academic year.
Your I-20 will not be issued until this certificate is received and reviewed.
Acceptable Financial Documents
- Personal Funds: Bank statement(s)** in the applicant’s name showing balance of account.
- Parent or sponsor’s funds: Bank statement(s)** in the sponsor’s name showing balance of account.
- Other institutional support/awards letters: Official letter showing amount and length of support.
- Loan certificates/letters: Must indicate applicant’s name or sponsor’s name and the amount of approved loan. Conditional loan approvals may be accepted only if the condition is the receipt of your I-20 of DS-2019.
**Bank/Financial statements must:
- Clearly show the financial institution’s name, account holder’s name, account balance, and type of currency;
- Be dated within the past 60 days (older statements will not be accepted);
- Be translated into English (especially names) – unofficial translations are accepted;
- Show that assets/funds are liquid and can be converted to cash.
Unacceptable Financial Documents
- Documents older than 60 days
- Income or salary statements
- Funds that are not immediately accessible (i.e. liquid)
- Assets that are not in liquidated form (house, car, etc)
- Life insurance policy statements
- Pensions funds
- Tax return forms or documents
- Loan applications
Proof of Health Requirements
All international students attending on-campus programs must maintain health insurance that is accepted by U.S. providers.
All international students attending on-campus programs must submit proof of a clear TB 9 (tuberculin) test or chest x-ray, given and read less than one year prior to the start of the school semester. TB tests or chest x-rays are required by law by the State of Hawaii. International students must submit a chest x-ray. The x-ray may be taken in their country of citizenship.

Arial is the Chaminade University Designated School Official (DSO) and works with International Students to issue the I-20 needed to apply for their student visa.
International One-on-One Sessions
Chaminade University offers personal one-on-one information sessions with an Admissions Counselor. Please schedule your personal session through our Meet Your Counselor page. These can be held virtually or on-campus.
International applications will be processed by the Office of Admissions. I-20’s will be processed by the Records & Registrar’s Office.
