Biography
Dr. Lawrie Ignacio is an Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology in the Hawaiʻi School of Professional Psychology (HSPP) and has been a graduate instructor for over 15 years with HSPP. She has also served as an Adjunct Professor at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. She earned her B.A. from Gonzaga University, her M.A. from Bowling Green State University, and her Psy.D. from Argosy University.
Born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii, Dr. Ignacio is committed to helping the people of the state, through 25 years of clinical practice, and through initiatives such as the Hawaiʻi Pro-Bono Mental Health Center and the Hawaiʻi Pro Bono COVID-19 Project, both of which wereco-envisioned with a colleague. She is the co-creator of Self-Meaning Based Therapy (SMBT), and has worked in a variety of settings, including the State Department of Health, Adult Mental Health Division, Child and Family Service, and the Kalihi-Pālama Community Mental Health Center.
Her professional interests and activities include integrating SMBT into individual and couple therapy, adult psychodynamic and existential psychotherapy, clinical personality and projective assessment, and the teaching of psychology.
