HONOLULU (December 17, 2018) – Dr. Michio “Mitch” Yamasaki, Chaminade University professor of historical and political studies, was recently elected chairman of the Hawaii Council for the Humanities (HCH), a nonprofit organization dedicated to using the public humanities to support educational programs, grants, and projects in collaboration with other local nonprofit organizations.
“I am honored to lead the Hawaii Council for the Humanities board and to continue perpetuating the organization’s mission to broaden the perspectives of our local communities,” said Dr. Yamasaki. “As a member of the council for over 20 years, it will be a privilege to support my fellow colleagues in this new leadership role, as we work together to encourage applied learning of humanities values and share this knowledge with others to inspire community and civic engagement.”
Dr. Yamasaki joined Chaminade University in 1988. He is a published author, celebrated academic and past member of the Hawaii Council for History Education, National Council for History Education, Hawaii Judiciary History Center, National Endowment for the Humanities, Organization of American Historians and the Society of History Education.
