  • NUR 203 Patho/Pharm II: Ever wondered what’s actually happening inside the body when someone gets sick and how medicine helps make it better? In this nursing course, you’ll explore how diseases affect the body, why symptoms happen, and how nurses use medications to treat them. You’ll build on what you already know about anatomy and physiology while learning the basics of pharmacology (how different drugs work). This class also looks at chronic illnesses, diagnostic tests, and how nurses care for people of all ages and backgrounds – helping you think critically and apply what you learn to real-life patient care.
  • FS 455 Medicolegal Death Investigation: This course introduces the hands-on science behind death investigation and forensic work. In this class, you’ll learn how medicolegal death investigations work, from examining scenes in the field to procedures in the morgue. You’ll explore how investigators collaborate with law enforcement, hospitals, and emergency services while learning key medical terminology, common medications, and emergency medical procedures. This course also covers evidence collection, photography, interviewing at a scene, fingerprinting, and understanding decomposition – giving you a real-world look at how science and investigation come together. *Note: This course includes graphic images due to the subject matter.
  • BI 152 Human Anatomy & Physiology II: This course explores how the human body works and how it stays in balance. Students will study how the body is structured and how its systems work together to keep people healthy. Topics include the nervous system, blood and circulation, immune and lymphatic systems, breathing, digestion, hormones, and reproductive systems. This course emphasizes how these systems interact in normal health, preparing students for nursing and medical-related fields.
  • ENV 400 Current Global Environment Issues: What are the biggest environmental threats facing our world and how can we solve them? In this course, students examine major environmental challenges, the social and economic factors that contribute to them, and how environmental damage impacts people and communities. Through diverse readings and real-world examples, students will also explore sustainable solutions that address today’s most pressing environmental issues.

  • PSY 202 Child Development: How do people grow, think, and develop from infancy through adolescence? This course explores psychological development from early childhood through the teenage years, with a focus on emotional, social, and cognitive growth. Students will learn how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors change over time and how these developmental stages shape who we become.
  • NUR 200 Intro to Nursing Concepts: Discover what it really means to be a nurse and make a difference in people’s lives! Students will explore the science and art of nursing, including its history, professional roles, ethics, and standards of practice. The course introduces the nursing process, responsibilities, and expectations of professionalism in healthcare. Health and wellness, culture and diversity, and caring for people from different backgrounds are central themes, with special attention to native Hawaiian and Pacific Island communities and Marianist values that guide compassionate, patient-centered care.

  • EID 370 Universal Design Inclusive Environment: Learn how thoughtful design can transform spaces and improve people’s lives. Students will examine how the built environment shapes daily experiences, considering both physical and cognitive abilities across the lifespan. The course also teaches how to interpret and apply project-specific codes and regulations to ensure health, safety, and well-being in public and private spaces.

  • COM 330 Intermediate Video Production: This course teaches the skills to bring stories to life on screen! Students will learn the fundamentals of scripting, single-camera field production, professional equipment use, and editing through hands-on exercises. By the end of the course, students will have practical experience creating their own video projects from start to finish.
  • EN 285 Multi-Gen Family Narratives: How do family stories reflect history, trauma, and the strength of community across generations? This introductory literature course examines multigenerational family narratives (through novels and films) from around the world. Students will explore themes of colonialism, intergenerational trauma, immigration, and how families and communities are built and sustained over time.

  • AC 204 Financial & Strategic Accounting: This course shows how financial data drives smart decisions and shapes the future of business. Students will learn how transactions turn into key financial statements and how numbers become tools for insight, forecasting, and strategic action. The course connects financial and strategic accounting in a relevant, hands-on way, exploring internal analysis, operational planning, ethical decision-making, and the role of AI and technology in transforming how data is used. Whether your path leads to finance, management, entrepreneurship, or tech-driven accounting, this course builds the foundation for making informed, impactful decisions.
  • BU 200 Introduction to Business: How do businesses run, and what skills prepare you for a career in management, entrepreneurship, or organizational leadership? This course surveys business functions, principles, and practices, introducing managerial tools for analysis and exploring how people behave in organizations. Students will apply practical problem-solving and decision-making strategies, preparing those interested in business majors, minors, or future careers in organizations.
  • BU 254 Personal Finance: Learn the essential skills to manage your money wisely and plan for the future! Topics include credit and loans, housing and automobile decisions, insurance, taxes, and retirement planning. Students will gain practical strategies to make smart financial choices and take control of their personal finances.

Frequently Asked Questions

Shadow a Silversword is open to both prospective and incoming first-year (freshman) students as well as transfer students who are interested in experiencing life at Chaminade University. Priority is given to high school seniors, juniors, and transfer students.

Reserved parking stalls will be available at the front of campus, located in front of TC Ching Hall. Please be sure to indicate in your event registration that you will be parking on campus so we can plan accordingly.

If you have concerns about missing school, we encourage you to speak with your teacher or school administrator ahead of time. Upon request, we are happy to provide a letter of participation that you may share with your school.

Yes! You’ll enjoy a free lunch on us at the Silversword Café, our all-you-care-to-eat dining hall, during your visit. It’s a great chance to experience campus dining while spending the day at Chaminade.

This event is designed specifically for students to experience life at Chaminade, so we ask that only the prospective or incoming student attend.
