Introduction
Apo Haumāna, meaning “our student embrace,” is dedicated to welcoming and supporting first-year students. The program includes a pre-orientation retreat, faculty and peer mentorship, and hands-on learning experiences.
Together, these experiences focus on four key components that shape your first-year journey: Academic Excellence, Connections and Community, Marianist Mission and Values, and Native Hawaiian and Local Culture.

Retreat
The Apo Haumāna program begins with a pre-orientation retreat, where you will connect with faculty and peer mentors before the academic year begins. This retreat provides an immersive introduction to life at Chaminade and helps set the stage for a strong start to your college journey.
Year-Long Engagement
Throughout the year, you will participate in workshops designed to support your transition to life at Chaminade. These workshops introduce essential campus and community resources and help you explore personal and professional opportunities.

Expectations
As a participant, you are encouraged to engage fully in all aspects of the Apo Haumāna program. This includes attending the pre-orientation retreat, maintaining communication with faculty and peer mentors, attending workshops designed to support your success, and using campus and community resources.
Your commitment to these activities will help ensure you get the most out of your first-year experience.
Registration
All incoming first-year undergraduate students are invited to join the Apo Haumāna program. Invitations are sent via email, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. If the program reaches capacity, you may join the waitlist and will be contacted if a spot becomes available.

Cost
The Apo Haumāna program is fully funded for participants. This includes meals, transportation to the pre-orientation retreat, and early move-in costs for students living on campus. Please note that to have the early move-in fee waived, you must attend the pre-orientation dinner and retreat. Students who do not attend or who leave early will be responsible for covering this cost.
