Biography

Dr. Baker joined the Chaminade faculty in August 2017 to work on the 2017-21 HHMI Inclusive Excellence Program. His role in the HHMI IE program is divided between conducting original research to characterize the philosophical and practical dimensions of inclusive excellence specific to Chaminade and designing and implementing data collection strategies for assessment and evaluation of program progress. Since 2012, as an adjunct in Anthropology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, he has collaborated with CUH Natural Sciences on a number of projects. Collaboration on the cultural metabolomics of kava, as part of the NSF EPSCoR program, resulted in two coauthored publications and culminated in an international conference on scientific and cultural dimensions of kava (Kavacon 2015), which was held at CUH in 2015. He has also collaborated on assessment and evaluation components of the Ho‘oulu Scholarship program and the NSF I-USE grant to CUH.
