Leila Mitsunaga, Psy.D. 

Dr. Leila Mitsunaga is the Practicum Director and an Assistant Professor at the Hawaiʻi School of Professional Psychology at Chaminade University at Honolulu. She earned her B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Chemistry at Willamette University and her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology at the Hawaiʻi School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University. She completed her predoctoral internship at Waiʻanae Coast Comprehensive Health Center and her postdoctoral training at Big Island Substance Abuse Council (BISAC) in Keaʻau.  She has worked at substance use disorder treatment programs and Federally Qualified Health Centers in both clinical and administrative roles.  She has supervised trainees from the master’s through postdoctoral levels, and helped to develop and manage an integrated substance use disorder training program.  Her primary clinical interests include the intersection between addiction and attachment, trauma-informed care, and working with rural and underserved communities.
