Located steps away from Mystical Rose Oratory and a short stroll from the center of campus, Marianist Hall – where the Marianist Brothers once resided – will be transformed into a Living and Learning Community. This new, inviting and aesthetically pleasing home-away-from-home for students pursuing their college degrees, their passions, and aiming to make a positive difference in the world.
FULFILLING OUR VISION
Chaminade University’s 2024-2030 Strategic Plan, Pūpūkahi i Holomua, aims to elevate the university’s academic programs, position in higher education, and quality of outcomes through five key commitments.
This project fulfills two of our important Strategic Plan commitments or kuleana:
- Belonging and Well-Being (Kuleana 2) – Cultivating a dynamic and inclusive campus community – while grounding our efforts in the spirit of reciprocity with Hawaiiʻs unique people, culture and environment. Nurturing and sustaining the well-being and pride of Silverswords, reinforcing a profound sense of belonging, identity and ʻohana on campus. With enrollment increasing, the need for additional housing is imperative to providing students with options where they are safe, secure, supported and involved with the campus community.
- Place, Purpose and Values (Kuleana 3) – The Living and Learning Community at Chaminade University will create a profound sense of place, purpose, and values that resonate with the core tenets of Catholic and Marianist principles. This strong sense of place fosters a supportive and enriching environment for our diverse community of learners. An extension of Chaminade’s thriving Residential Life and Housing Program, the Living and Learning Community builds on the existing options of Hale Lokelani, Hale Pohaku, Keiffer Hall, and the Waialae Avenue Apartments.
University life is essential to the transformational experience of college students, who are welcomed into the campus community through interactions with peers, classmates, faculty, and staff. They gather in common areas, join clubs, participate in activities, and support Silversword sports teams. A key goal in our Strategic Plan is to offer students personal and authentic ways to connect with our Marianist-Catholic mission and legacy. Through the Living and Learning Community, students will contribute to carrying on the Marianist mission by residing near the Mystical Rose Oratory, deepening their engagement with the university’s spiritual heritage.
The Project
This converted 40-bed student residence hall, or Living and Learning Community, is designed to meet the needs of a growing undergraduate student body at Chaminade. The purchase and renovation of Marianist Hall will require a significant investment, not only to incorporate intentional design elements and create sustainable living and learning spaces, but also to cover the ongoing costs of maintaining this unique facility. Support from our community will be crucial to bringing this vision to life.
Marianist Hall
Nestled between Mystical Rose Oratory and Hale Malia, with sweeping views of Diamond Head, Marianist Hall has been part of the history of Kalaepōhaku as an important residence for Marianist Brothers and visitors, symbolizing the heritage of Chaminade University. Its renovation and transformation into a new Living and Learning Community for students will enable Chaminade to fulfill its Strategic Plan of shaping the future of education and inspiring the next generation of leaders.
