Student Breakout Session Topics
- Academic Check-In
- Introduce yourself to our Chaminade Deans, Faculty, and Staff from each respective academic school.
- Our Moʻolelo (Our Story)
- One of the Marianist Values is Educate in Family Spirit. This specific Marianist value is the most common for our Chaminade ohana; forming connections with peers and faculty. Part of Chaminade University’s story is cultivating interpersonal relationships characterized by openness, respect, integrity, and dialogue. We want to share this story with you and through these connections.
- So this leads us to getting to know one another through these icebreaker activities and building community. These icebreakers will prompt communication skills, help break the ice, as well as getting to know your peers in a more comfortable light.
- “We Do It Island Style”
- Having current students meet with new students in a casual setting helping build community within Hawai’i. Another Marianist value is Educate for adaptation & change; assisting new students in transitioning into Chaminade. Asking questions while their Orientation Leaders (current Students) provide some guidance; which also ties back to Family spirit. By having this section of the student sessions, “We do it Island Style” circles back to Family spirit (being inclusive/involved/forming connections) and Adaptation & Change (encouraging students to be open-minded/seek out services we offer to help with this change/ transition smoothly into the Silversword Ohana).
Parent Breakout Session Topics
- Mālama ʻOhana (Taking care of our family)
- Learn about how we Mālama our students through their college journey and how we keep them safe on campus.
- Na‘auao (enlightenment and wisdom)
- We are aware that there are many challenges students will face in their college experience. We are here to provide you with as much mental health support as we can. We are a confidential, safe, diverse, and judgment-free center.
- Let Us Kōkua (help)
- We strive to see our student succeed in every way possible. Learn about how Chaminade is able to do that and how your contribution is a key factor in their academic journey
