About Us

Montessori Education for the Whole Child

We employ the Montessori Method which emphasizes the development of all facets of a child’s unfolding personality-social, emotional, cognitive and physical. Our child-centered prepared environment contains a wide variety of materials from which a child may choose an activity which supports the development of the whole child. The trained Montessori teacher acts as a guide to demonstrate lessons and then encourage children in their exploration, discovery, practice, and success. Each achievement opens a new and exciting challenge for the child. Our prepared environment is purposefully prepared to provide the child with a variety of diverse ways to develop and grow and become a successful and independent critical thinker and joyful learner.

Developing the Responsible Child

Freedom with responsibility supports the development of self-esteem, self-discipline and social skills. Awareness of and concern for the welfare of the group is an integral part of the environment. Dr. Montessori’s cosmic curriculum focuses on the interdependence of all living things. Children learn that they play a role in the scheme of life and are important members of their society.

The Montessori Laboratory School

The Chaminade University Montessori Laboratory School serves the Honolulu-Oahu community and is a demonstration school for Chaminade University of Honolulu. As an integral part of the University’s Education Department, the Montessori Laboratory School serves as a laboratory to provide practicum experiences for the Montessori Teacher Training Program and other university programs.

The Chaminade University Montessori Teacher Training Program is a professional training program for teachers of young children. It prepares and trains candidates to conduct classes for children between the ages of 3-6 years in a Montessori setting. Candidates that complete the program may receive a Bachelor’s or Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education and receive an American Montessori Society credential.

Catholic and Marianist Education

The Montessori Laboratory School is a living memorial to Father Chaminade’s vision of Catholic and Marianist education.

  • Educate for formation in faith
  • Provide an integral quality education

Program and Hours

The program includes pre-school and kindergarten age groups from ages 3-6 years. The school operates on a eleven-month calendar. Hours of operation are 7:30 am–4:00 pm.

The secret of good teaching is to regard the child’s intelligence as a fertile field in which seeds may be sown, to grow under the heat of flaming imagination.
