Denise has worked in academia for the last 15 years. She is a doctoral student at the University of Hawaii online Ph.D. program with a research interest in simulation. She has been a nurse for 26 years graduating with a BSN originally from Ursuline College in Cleveland, Ohio where she was born and raised. She received a Master’s degree in management and education from University of Phoenix. She has worked in various areas of nursing including medical-surgical, oncology (teens and adults), special care nursery, and ultimately specializing in perinatal nursing for the past 20 years. She arrived in Honolulu, Hawaii 25 years ago as a traveling nurse and then met and married her husband in Hawaii. She has three children, one grown and living in Florida and two new high school graduates. She has had the wonderful opportunity of being the first nurse coordinator in the beginning stages and implementation of the Hawaii Cord Blood Program. She enjoys hanging out with her family, hiking, practicing yoga, running, and deep sea fishing.
