Chaminade Core Curriculum

Foundations, Values and Integration of Knowledge – General Education Requirements
Approved Chaminade University of Honolulu General Education Model Structure including clarifications & changes accepted on 8-21-2019 by faculty.

Required foundational skills courses for all students

Sophomore Third/Fourth Critical Thinking * Multiple courses in EC, EN, E+ID, ENV, FA, GE, HI, PH, POL, PSY, RE, SOC, etc. 3
Sophomore Third/Fourth Knowledge of Beauty & Creativity * FA, PA, MU, THR 3

Freshman – Senior 1st – 8th Education for Service Justice & Peace Students choose one course from HI/POL, EN, BS/SOC/PSY/GE/ED/EC and Lab/Field Science 3 or 4
Freshman – Senior 1st – 8th Education for Adaptation & Change Students choose one course from HI/POL, EN, BS/SOC/PSY/GE/ED/EC and Lab/Field Science 3 or 4

OUTCOMES: Each course must have two outcomes – one that demonstrates one of the Catholic Marianist characteristics, and one that demonstrates Native Hawaiian values

Students must complete one service-learning course from throughout the curriculum as part of the Gen Ed Program.

OUTCOMES: Capstone synthesizes and assesses: Catholic Marianist characteristics, Native Hawaiian values and Global Awareness

Programs with existing capstones may submit their syllabi to the Gen Ed/Core Curriculum committee for review in order to determine alignment with the requirements for the Gen Ed/Core Curriculum Capstone course.

Double-dipping will be allowed

Courses will be fit into the Passport Model to enhance transferability.
