Immerse yourself in a rich Hawaiian setting and learn how to foster a child’s growth and development within their own culture and environment. The Montessori Summer Institute provides a unique experience to engage in hands-on activities, lectures, demonstrations and field trips. This intensive two-week workshop is the perfect professional development opportunity for teachers of children ages three to nine years old.

Workshops about Montessori philosophy, philosophical foundations and place-based education
Explore the themes of cultures and environments and learn practical life activities
Field trip to Hawaii Nature Center to learn about using the environment as a classroom
Evening star party
Learn about sensorial education through botany and environmental stewardship activities
Field trip to tidepools to learn about science in the classroom
Field trip to Manoa Heritage Center
Island road trip to explore geology and habitats
Explore lessons on developing integrated curricula, language and the arts
Learn to teach zoology, math and music
Field trip to a local Hawaiian immersion program site
Explore self-awareness and peaceful living skills and activities
Develop lessons on fundamental needs and global awareness
Optional Mission Trip
All Montessori Summer Institute participants have the opportunity to participate in a mission and outreach experience or trip. Participants may identify and create their own experience or participate in one of Chaminade’s mission trips to the Philippines or Kenya. More information will be provided during the summer institute program.
Summer Institute tuition……….. $1,950
The tuition cost includes two weeks of full-day workshops and daily breakfast and lunch. Participants will receive a certificate of completion for 80 professional development hours on the last day of the workshop.
Optional course credit fee………. $468
Six college credits for an education elective are available with additional assignments. Currently enrolled Chaminade students may qualify for a partial scholarship—for more information, contact Yan Yan Imamura at email@example.com.
On-campus housing is available for those coming from out-of-town.
Attendees will reside in the residence halls with gorgeous sweeping views of downtown Honolulu and Waikiki. Daily rates range from $72-97. There is also an additional $100 cleaning fee.
